30 Day Movie Challenge Day 10: Saddest Movie

I don't use the word "masterpiece" a lot when it comes to films, but I genuinely think Grave of the Fireflies qualifies. Quite possibly the saddest movie I've ever seen, it deals with the aftermath of the firebombing of Japan during WWII, as two orphaned children attempt to survive. If you haven't seen it, it is essential viewing.

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 9- Death Scene

For my money, one of the all time champion death scenes is in the original Robocop, when Emil, an evil thug, gets doused in toxic waste and starts melting like a candle. That's awesome enough, but almost immediately he gets hit by a car, turning him into chunky marinara sauce. Amazing. This literally never gets old.

The Evolution of Luke Skywalker

This piece will debut at Gallery Nucleus' May 4th Star Wars art gallery. If you live in LA, I hope you'll come check it out! This piece is unique, as it's the first Evolution I did that I painted traditionally, not digitally.

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 8: Sidekick

"Wanna go fight some crime?"
For today's challenge, I wanted to draw one of the most memorable sidekicks in recent memory- Ellen Page as Boltie. In this universe, Rainn Wilson is apparently a giant for some reason. :P

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 7: Swapping Gender

So, for this task, the challenge was to take an iconic movie character and swap the gender. For some reason a female Travis Bickle leapt to mind. I styled her a little after Lisbeth, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's a strange juxtaposition, but I think it works.

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 6: 50's Movie

A tribute to one of my all time favorite 50's movies: Sunset Blvd.

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 5: Fight Scene

For this challenge, I wanted to depict one of the greatest fight scenes of all time: the battle between the T-800 and the T-1000 from Terminator 2. Once again, I took a little artistic license, but hopefully I captured the spirit of this incredible battle!
Also, for you curious artist types, I'm also including a visual tutorial, showing my process for this image, sketch through completion. Please let me know if you find this helpful. Thanks!

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 4: Character that aged in real time

So, whatever happened to Sloth? I figure he and Chunk are off somewhere living happily together.

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 3: Scary Movie

"The Thing". I can't tell you how much this movie scared the ever-lovin' shit out of me as a kid. I took a little artistic license with the look of the creature, but in my 10 year old brain, this is what was living under my bed. :S

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 2: Minimalist Movie Poster

For this challenge, I chose one of my favorite Martin Scorcese movies, Casino. I tried to find the perfect image to represent the film, combining gambling, violence, and a gritty 70's vibe.

30 Day Movie Challenge Day 1: Animated Movie

Let's start this 30 Day challenge off with a bang! For Day 1, I chose to depict one of my favorite Pixar movies, The Incredibles. I swear, this movie gets better and better every time I see it. (Yes, I am aware that Mr. Incredible wore a different outfit in this scene, but I wanted to draw his iconic red look). Hope you dig it! :)

The Body

"The train had knocked Ray Brower out of his Keds just like it had knocked the life out of his body. The kid wasn't sick. The kid wasn't sleeping. The kid was dead."- A tribute to Stand By Me

New work

The top picture came out of a random idea of a young girl contrasted against a dark sky. I pretty much just made it up as I went along. The bottom picture was done as part of an invitation to my brother's upcoming wedding. I'm very happy for him and his lovely bride to be! :D
