The Blue Bag

Hey guys- another lunchtime memory sketch. Today we couldn't find anyone interesting to draw so we just picked a girl walking in front of us with a Ginormous blue bag. Never got to see her face-but tried to give a sense of motion and color with this drawing-not anatomical accuracy. (Drawn in about 4-5 minutes)

Sweaty Business Man

Hey gang! This here is a super fast 5 minute memory sketch of this fat sweaty Drew Carey looking dude we saw outside of NeoPets. So the game is, a few of us artists see a person on the street during our lunch break, then we go inside and draw them. Unfortunately, you only see them for a second, so the drawings aren't ever very literal-just an impression of what the person looked like. I'm Old

Today is July 20th 2007 and today I'll be celebrating my 30th birthday. Holy Crap. It seems like just yesterday I was spending the weekends reading comics, playing with Star Wars toys, and drawing cartoons. Actually, that WAS yesterday. Viva la progress!
PS. What you are looking at is a handmade book I made at about age 3-4. Amazing how 27 years later my tastes are pretty much the same.

Scary Cat

This piece is my very first digital painting, done for my good buddy Joseph's birthday the other day. Cat in the Hat is one of our most loathed movies. It's deeply offensive on so many levels, not the least of which is that it's not funny for a second. Mainly it's just creepy. Very, very creepy.

Anyway, sorry I've been neglecting my blogging duties. In case you're wondering where I've been, I got hired at a company called NeoPets, which is this online/children's/game/customizable pet/thing. It's got a pretty big following, and for the last month I've been doing prop design. It's a pretty sweet gig, and they're keeping me really busy. So, I apologize for the artistic slowdown, but stay posted...more stuff is on it's way.

Hey gang! I just watched the movie "Ghost Rider" yesterday with some friends, and although I heard it was bad, I held out hope. I mean, a guy with a flaming skull riding a black devil motorcycle is one one of the coolest, most cinematic images I can think of. How bad could it be? Here's my two word movie review: Turd Sandwich.
But, it inspired me to do my rendition of Johnny Blaze as a Bubblehead, with a little 'Akira' homage thrown in for good measure! Hope ya like!

Kong is King

King Kong-the greatest monster movie ever made. I love this film. Seeing it as a kid really inspired me to take an interest in fantasy films and special effects. It still holds up marvelously well today. (King Kong vs. Godzilla? Not so much.) Peter Jackson's Kong was great too, in it's own way, but nothing can replace the original. Have a great weekend, everyone!

The only reason I sat through Episode 1 again...

Hey everyone! Here's a fresh Star Wars Bubblehead duel between Darth Maul and Obi Wan. As I watched this scene I remember thinking that lightsaber fighting had never seemed faster or more exciting. Sadly, Lucas didn't bring back a robotic Maul in Revenge of the Sith, so, sadly, we're left with a character much like Boba Fett in the original trilogy: Looks great, but goes out like a puss. Oh well. Hope ya like the drawing.

Nicole Richie

Sorry, cheap shot. No, it's the Pale Man from one of the best movies I've seen so far this year: Pan's Labyrinth. As far as Guillermo del Toro's movies go, I didn't think it was possible to top the Devil's Backbone- but somehow he did. You rarely see a mix of fantasy and reality work so well on screen as you do in this movie. And let's face it- who can forget the grotesque Pale Man, played brilliantly by Doug Jones.

I will continue to do Star Wars characters, but I'm going to throw in a couple curve balls from time to time...hope you like. And please, leave lots of comments. I love hearing what you're digging, what you would like to see more of, less of, etc. Let me hear from you!

Staying inside the lines...

Hey guys. This is a job I recently completed with my talented friend Patrick Owsley. He designed these characters for a company called Food For Life and I assisted by doing the coloring. A big thanks to Patrick for the assignment. It was a lot of fun!
